Reality Bites

I was trying to think of something to write about and my mind starting wandering to the present state of my life. My mind fumbled around the many circumstances I find myself in and as I tried to make some sense of them, I came to the conclusion that my reality really does suck right now. Then I began thinking about the overload of reality shows and how they're further from reality than any sitcom or drama.

One thing I don't completely understand is why the constestants on most of these shows have to be beautiful. I can kind of understand why the dating shows are like that, because who would want to watch a bunch of ugly people trying to woo another ugly person. It wouldn't make for good ratings. But wouldn't it be refreshing if just once there was a reality show that was populated with average looking people? Girls with a few fat rolls when they sit down, a large ass, a lazy eye, acne scars, frizzy hair, whatever. I challenge the producers of reality shows to give us average women with flaws. Because they do exist in reality, and we get enough of impossibly perfect looking women on every other show.

That Average Joe show doesn't count because it was the gimmick. Hey, let's have a bunch of average to homely looking dudes compete for a beauty queen that is repulsed by the sight of them. People will watch just to make fun of how awkward the contestants are. What's so crazy about a dating show with average looking people all around? Maybe even a few ugly ass people throw in for good measure.
